With Ruba and Jim living in Ohio and planning their destination wedding at The Mills House in Charleston, SC; I wasn’t able to have an engagement session with them until we both had arrived before the wedding festivities. I absolutely love spending time with my couples before their wedding, and while that typically happens on average a year before their wedding, there are times when it’s just not possible. Thankfully Ruba and Jim loved my idea of us meeting for a “mini” engagement session before their wedding rehearsal and dinner.
As I made my way into the city of Charleston it was pouring. We were actually under a flash flood warning with the downtown Charleston area quickly flooding in some areas. Thankfully Ruba and Jim were staying at one of the most gorgeous hotels in Charleston. The Mills House was just perfect for a quick portrait session! With neutral walls, pops of color with modern furniture and an ode to Charleston charm, I knew that their portraits were going to be absolutely stunning.
While shooting in the tea area, I had a view of the outside terrace. The rain thankfully was just a light mist now, allowing us to run outside for more portraits. One of my favorite things about Charleston is that you NEVER have to go far to find amazing portrait locations. We literally walked across the street to a connecting street and had beautiful blooming trees, iron fencing and my personal favorite, cobblestone streets!
Ruba and Jim’s engagement session may have literally been only 30 minutes but I absolutely LOVE their portraits! It’s just proof that even if it’s raining and you have the ability to move indoors you can still capture stunning portraits. Here are a few of my most favorites!
